Scott Clemons, CFA

Partner & Chief Investment Strategist, Brown Brothers Harriman

As a Partner and the Chief Investment Strategist for our Private Banking business, Scott Clemons is one of the firm's primary writers and speakers on topics related to the economy, financial markets and investing. He began his career at BBH in 1990 in international equities, where he was an analyst and portfolio manager of European and Asian equities, working out of the firm's New York and London offices throughout the 1990s. In 2001, Scott broadened his responsibilities into domestic equity management and research as well, and then from 2005 through 2010 managed the New York office of the firm's Private Wealth Management business.

Scott is a frequent contributor to print and broadcast media, appearing frequently in the pages of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, as well as on CNBC and Bloomberg TV. Outside of his professional interests, Scott is a trustee of the Morgan Library and Museum, the Grolier Club of New York City and the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, the oldest foundation in the United States dedicated to basic scientific research. Scott is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the CFA Institute.

Alison Hutchinson

Ali has over 15 years of experience in the private banking industry and focuses on values-based planning with a concentration in family businesses. In her role, Ali provides clients with investment, philanthropic, trust and estate advice to help navigate life transitions, including retirement, intergenerational wealth transfer and the succession of privately held companies. As a leader of the BBH Center for Family Business, Next Generation Experience, and Center for Women & Wealth, she advises families on how to link succession plans to real life, including facilitating open, productive conversations about wealth, family and values to help ensure each unique plan is resilient and durable.

Ali is a frequent contributor to print and broadcast media, appearing in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Kiplinger, Bloomberg, MarketWatch, Business Insider, ThinkAdvisor and CNBC, and was featured on the WSJ Secrets of Wealthy Women podcast.

Prior to joining Brown Brothers, Ali was in private legal practice at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York City, specializing in trust and estate planning – developing and implementing strategies to achieve preservation and transmission of family wealth while minimizing transfer taxes.

Ali serves on the Executive Committee of the board of directors of the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, and earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a Dillard Fellow. Ali lives in Manhattan with her husband, Scott and their three children.


David Shaw

Publishing Director, Family Business Magazine

David Shaw is the publishing director for MLR Media. He also co-founded and serves as conference director of the Transitions conferences, the Private Company Governance Summit and Family Business Legacy. David writes frequently on governance issues for public and private companies, and develops and maintains close relationships with multi-generational family-owned businesses. He is married, with two grown children.
