Although Houston-based Stage Stores Inc., which operates stores that use the Bealls name in several states, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on May 10, Bealls Inc., the family-owned company based in Bradenton, Fla., remains financially healthy.

Bealls Inc., founded in 1915, operates more than 550 stores in 17 states under the names of Bealls, Bealls Outlet, Burkes Outlet, Home Centric and Bunulu. It is not affiliated with the Bealls stores operated by Stage Stores.

A statement issued by Bealls Inc. on May 20 said the company had reopened 100% of its stores that had been closed because of the coronavirus.
