Chick-fil-A says it will stop anti-gay donations
A Chicago alderman who had criticized Chick-fil-A after the company's president, Dan Cathy, said his family-rum business supports "the biblical definition of the family unit" said the company has agreed to stop funding groups opposed to same-sex marriage, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno said he and other city officials had been negotiating with Chick-fil-A executives for the last ten months, according to the report. The company is seeking approval to expand in Chicago.
Moreno said he received a letter from the company's WinShape Foundations unit that said it "will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas," the LA Times report said. Moreno would not release the full text of the letter, the report noted.
Moreno, who had threatened to block a new Chick-fil-A restaurant in his area, now says he will give the company his support, the article said. (Source: Los Angeles Times, Sept. 19, 2012.)
